Class A
No. 8 East Buchanan 44, Lisbon 14
The line is big. The backs are slippery.
The punter? Not a factor.
Eighth-ranked East Buchanan scored on its first six possessions behind a bruising ground game and dusted Lisbon, 44-14, in a Class A first-round playoff game Friday night at Buccaneer Field.
“We played Buccaneer football,” said Tanner Thurn, who rushed for 223 yards and five touchdowns. “This wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. We average about 400 (rushing) yards per game.”
It was 444 yards on the ground (on 55 carries) Friday as the Buccaneers (8-1) won their seventh straight game.

No. 10 Alburnett 38, Bellevue 27
Alburnett was cold at the start.
Ice cold, actually. The Pirates defense struggled to stop Bellevue, while the offense made uncharacteristic mistakes that Coach Rich Valezquez hadn’t see from the district champions this year.
The thaw took about a quarter and then the Pirates started to warm up. Once they caught fire, they scorched the Comets.
No. 10 Alburnett overcame a double-digit deficit with four touchdowns in the second quarter, including three Mason Neighbor touchdown passes, to take the lead for good and defeat Bellevue, 38-27, in the first round of the Class A playoffs Friday night at Jim Carver Field of Martin Sports Complex.
“We came out slow,” Velazquez said. “We were able to adjust and then we were able to do what we know we could do.”
Neighbor passed for 278 yards.
