Iowa high school football 2024: The Gazette’s Fab 5 area Class 4A players to watch
CCA’s Brody Clubb, Marion’s Kaleb Diers, Xavier’s Carter Hoffmann, Western Dubuque’s Garrett Kluesner and Decorah’s William Hahn are on our preseason watch list

The Gazette’s “Fab 5” area Class 4A players to watch during the 2024 Iowa high school football season.
Brody Clubb
School: Clear Creek Amana
Grade: Senior
Positions: OL/DL
Height/weight: 6-foot-3, 260 pounds
About the player: Clubb is a three-star defensive lineman who has committed to play defensive end at North Dakota State. The four-year starter is coming off an injury-shortened season where he totaled 16 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss in just three games. He had 44 tackles, two sacks and 7.5 for a loss in 2022.
Kaleb Diers
School: Marion
Grade: Senior
Positions: QB
Height/weight: 6-5, 220
About the player: Diers was a second-team all-district player and will be at the center of the Wolves’ offense. He passed for 933 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 14.1 per completion. Diers added 361 yards and five TDs on 76 carries. Tied for 20th in 4A with 15 TDs. Diers has committed to play for UNI.
Carter Hoffmann
School: Cedar Rapids Xavier
Grade: Junior
Positions: RB/DB
Height/weight: 6-1, 180
About the player: Hoffmann was a second-team all-district performer who emerged as a key playmaker last season. Hoffmann ranked 12th in 4A with 36 receptions and tied for 12th with six TDs. He finished with 549 yards, good for 15.3 per catch. He was a special teams leader, averaging 21.4 per kick return.
Garrett Kluesner
School: Western Dubuque
Grade: Senior
Positions: OL/DL
Height/weight: 6-2, 235
About the player: Kluesner was a first-team all-state selection at offensive tackle. He helped pave the way for an offense that ranked second in 4A with more than 5,000 offensive yards. Kluesner is a tough, hard-nosed blocker and defender. He tallied 11.5 tackles but seven were for a loss and three were sacks.
William Hahn
School: Decorah
Grade: Senior
Positions: OL/DL
Height/weight: 6-3, 278
About the player: Hahn was a second-team all-state and first-team all-district performer. He is a big, strong body that helped the Vikings rush for almost 2,000 yards last season. Hahn is a physical player and has a fire for one-on-one competition. Defensively, he tallied 29 tackles, 23 solo and 3.5 tackles for loss.
