Hawkeye Fans Adjust to New Night Game Rules
Oct. 2, 2010 9:45 pm
More than 75-thousand fans are leaving Kinnick Stadium after the Hawkeyes Beat Penn State.
The University of Iowa enforced a new rule: no tailgating on University of Iowa property after the game.
It just one of the new policies the University put in place in effort to reduce alcohol related problems.
Fans are not welcome to drink or even hang out here on University of Iowa property after a night game. Now Iowa city Police are making sure no one is breaking that rule.
Officers are are making it clear: Open containers of alcohol are NOT allowed on the city streets.
Misty Freyenberger said, "I think it sucks."
Teri Smith said, "It's the students who are going to find another way to drink. So it that's what they are trying to change that's not happening."
Some fans say, after a long day of drinking, then a chilly night game, it's a good idea to call it a night after the game.
Craig Lusthoff, "I don't see much tailgating after the games especially not at night."
But fans say the new rule is going to cause a different kind of post game chaos. More than 70-thousand people trying to leave the same place at one time.
Smith said, "Th responsible adults that know not to drink and drive and know not to drink when your over served or have a DD. They are punishing the adults. "
It's those responsible adults who say they are here to have fun, and there was plenty of that happening on this chilly fall day.
Right now, we don't know a start time for the remaining home games, so this tailgating rule could come into effect again this year.
