Ehlers turns down football offer at Jefferson
Jeff Linder Mar. 8, 2012 8:29 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS -- The search for a football coach at Jefferson High School will continue.
Dubuque Hempstead Coach Mark Ehlers said Thursday night that he was offered the job, and turned it down.
"There was some interest there, but I pulled my eighth-grade daughter aside (Wednesday) and she said, 'I don't want to go.' " Ehlers said.
A former assistant at Linn-Mar, Ehlers has posted a 71-46 record with five playoffs appearances in 12 years at Hempstead. The Mustangs reached the second round three straight years (2008-10), with the 2009 and 2010 teams finishing 8-3.
Jefferson is looking for a successor to Jim Womochil, who resigned in January after posting a 22-78 record in 10 years. The J-Hawks have lost 22 straight games.
