WASHINGTON, Iowa - The 10th annual Washington Farmers' Market "Tasters' Choice Salsa Contest" will be held the Thursday, Sept. 3.
Contestants need to furnish a quart of their own, homemade salsa by 4:45 p.m. Thursday. Label each quart with the salas's name, makers name, address, and indicate whether mild, medium or hot. Numbered bowls for tasting and chips will be furnished.
The sampling will begin at 5 p.m. in downtown Central Park near the Bandstand on the southwest quadrant.
Previous contests have produced many choices for top salsa: peach, blueberry, tomato, tomatillo, mild, hot, watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumber, eggplant and black bean are a few examples. Double dipping will not be allowed. After sampling, you'll be asked to vote for your choice of best and second best salsa.
