Wohooo!!! We made it to another new year! Happy 2024! May it bring you and yours love, prosperity, joy and peace.
I have a love-hate relationship with the winter season. I’m a winter baby and I’m a huge softy for winter's comfort foods, but you can keep all the other stuff. One of my favorite any time comfort foods is fried cabbage. With meat or without it’s always a grand YES for me.
This recipe for fried cabbage has turkey bacon in it. I use the black label brand found in Hy-Vee and Walmart stores. It’s my favorite because it’s real minced smoked Turkey and not that chopped liver looking stuff that turns into cardboard after cooking it. It’s very flavorful.
Growing up my maternal grandmother and I used to sit at the kitchen table talking about all kinds of things and I would ask her about her past because I was always curious. She would chop and rinse the cabbage off and with very minimal seasoning she’d make the best fried cabbage -- no meat required. We’d eat it with some some hot water cornbread and a cup of cold Kool-Aid.
To fry my cabbage I like to use my wok versus a skillet or a pot. It has more room to maneuver all the ingredients so they cook as evenly as possible. I cover it with aluminum foil at the end of cooking since I don’t have a lid big enough to cover it.
This recipe is so versatile that you can customize your fried cabbage however you’d like. You can add colorful sweet peppers, pineapple chunks or kielbasa sausage. You can get pretty creative with fried cabbage. You could even make egg rolls with any leftovers.
Now that we’ve worked up an appetite, let’s roll up our sleeves, wash our hands and get started making our very own version of Fried Cabbage with Turkey Bacon.

1 teaspoon lemon pepper
1/2 package turkey bacon cut into bite-size portions
1/2 onion sliced
1/2 green bell pepper sliced
4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
