Corridor holiday bakers wanted for bake-off

CEDAR RAPIDS — Amateur home bakers and non-professional baking addicts are wanted to participate in a holiday cake contest held Dec. 15 to 17 at NewBo City Market in Cedar Rapids by Sandrine Wallace of French Pastry by Sandrine.

The contest is open to candidates 18 years and older, from Iowa or Illinois. No degree, diploma or license is required. Bakers can participate on their own or team with the partner of their choice. They will have three-and-a half-hours to present a stunning holiday cake that reflects the Christmas spirit.

Cakes will be judged by a team of local food-related business owners, awarding prizes in the amount of $300 for first prize, $100 for second prize and $50 for third prize. Winners will be announced during the grand finale Dec. 17 that will include a bake sale of all the cakes made for the contest.
