Woman killed in Quasqueton house fire

A woman died early Sunday in a house fire in Quasqueton, according to the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office was called to the 700 block of E Cedar Street about 3 a.m. Sunday when a neighbor stepped outside to let the dogs out and saw flames coming from the home of Kathryn Marie Crawford, 69, a news release states.

Deputies and firefighters from the Quasqueton Fire Department arrived on the scene and neighbors told them that the window the flames were coming from was Crawford’s bedroom. First responders were unable to enter immediately due to excessive smoke and heat, according to the release.

After the fire was contained, Crawford was found inside the house and was later pronounced dead. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the release states.
