IOWA CITY — The Iowa City Fire Department has named Troy Roth as its new fire marshal.
Roth, a 21-year veteran of the agency, where he most recently served as captain, succeeds Brian Greer, who retired as fire marshal in November after serving 31 years with the Iowa City department. Roth’s new annual salary is $100,651.
Duties of the Fire Marshal's Office include:
- Fire investigation
- Ensuring commercial buildings are in compliance with the International Fire Code
- Inspecting construction sites to ensure compliance with approved plans
- Coordinating commercial inspection efforts
“The most important duties involve public education,” Public Safety spokesman Lee Hermiston said in a statement. “Fire Marshal Roth supports all of the Iowa City Fire Department's outreach efforts, including Fire Prevention Week programs, fire safety trailer events, assisting the community's aging population with smoke alarms, and engaging with community groups through fire safety talks.”
In March, Iowa City named Scott Lyon, an Urbandale firefighter, to be chief of the Iowa City Fire Department, which has 63 sworn staff.
