Accidental fire at Riverview Plaza Condominiums in Coralville causes $100,000 in damage

A condominium fire in Coralville on Wednesday caused damage estimated at about $100,000.

At about 6:30 p.m., firefighters responded to an apartment fire at 308 First Ave. in Coralville, according to a Coralville Fire Department news release. Property records show Riverview Plaza Condominiums at that address.

A Coralville police officer activated the fire alarm and everyone in the complex got out safely on their own, the release stated.

Firefighters found flames and heavy smoke coming from the roof. They were able to contain the fire to the roof and one unit and extinguished the fire in about 30 minutes. They stayed there until about 9:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire was ruled to be accidental but the investigation continues.
