3-year-old girl dies after being pulled from Marshalltown house fire
The child was resuscitated after being found unconscious on the home’s second floor

A 3-year-old girl died Wednesday, two days after being pulled from a house fire in Marshalltown.
Emergency responders were called to a house fire at 505 E Church St. in Marshalltown at 4 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from the Marshalltown Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived on scene at 4:06 p.m., and were alerted to a person trapped on the second floor of the house. Two firefighters attempted a ladder rescue from the rear of the house, and two entered the front of the house. At 4:08 p.m., they found a 3-year-old girl unconscious on the second floor, and removed her from the house, according to the news release.
The toddler was resuscitated and transported from the scene in an ambulance. She was flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. At the time the news release was issued Monday night, the girl was in critical condition.
According to the updated news release, the girl died Wednesday morning.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing. Iowa State Fire Marshal special agents were called to assist.
According to the State Fire Marshal’s website, there has been just one fire fatality in 2025. It was a 77-year-old man who died after being burned in a brush fire in Clinton County on Feb. 7.
