As Congress scrambles to pass a government funding bill by the end of the week, Iowa’s congressional delegation is weighing votes on the last major piece of legislation before the new year.
The Water Resource and Development Act, reauthorized every two years, provides a framework for projects and studies done by the Army Corps of Engineers. The act deals with construction and maintenance of ports, waterways, locks and dams.
The Gazette asked all six members of Iowa’s congressional delegation, plus U.S. Rep-elect Zach Nunn, for their reaction to the committee’s recommendations as well as the committee’s assessment that former President Trump is not fit to serve in public office again.

Republicans U.S. Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst of Iowa, the country's top corn and ethanol producing state, said the EPA should have gone further to require even more use of advanced biofuels.
Some Republicans want the mandate eliminated via the annual defense budget bill.
The senators, both Republicans, said the move would provide cheaper fuel to consumers and certainty to farmers and ethanol producers.
All 4 House members said yes to the main deal, but Republicans opposed an additional requirement for paid sick leave for railroad workers.
