CLASS 3A CHAMPIONSHIP
#2 Mount Vernon (24-2) vs. #4 Davenport Assumption (24-2)
Time: 6 p.m.
Coaches: Bob Kintzel is 85-13 in four years at Mount Vernon. Jennifer Goetz is in her first year at Assumption and is 24-2.
Key players: Taylor Dicus (6-2, sr.) and Amanda Platte (6-1, sr.) average 12.6 and 12.3 points per game, respectively, to lead Mount Vernon. Melissa Youngblut (5-10, sr.) and Emma Ambrose (5-10, sr.) are Assumption's leaders at 10.8 ppg and 10.4 ppg.
How they got here: Mount Vernon advanced with a pair of wins over Wamac Conference foes -- 53-38 over Benton Community and 41-29 over DeWitt Central. Assumption defeated Sergeant Bluff-Luton, 67-60, then knocked off No. 1 Ballard, 56-42.
CLASS 4A CHAMPIONSHIP
#3 Iowa City West (23-2) vs. #1 Des Moines East (25-0)
Time: 8 p.m.
Coaches: B.J. Mayer is 190-112 in 13 years, including 63-32 in four seasons at West. Sam Powell is 131-36 in seven seasons at East.
Key players: Ally Disterhoft (5-11, soph.) paces West at 15.1 ppg while Mckenzie Piper (6-0, jr.) adds 12.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. East has four Division-I signees, led by Notre Dame recruit Markisha Wright (6-2, sr.), who averages 15.9 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Shronda Butts (5-7, sr.), Sharnae Lamar (5-0, sr.) and Nijay Gaines (6-0, sr.) have signed with Bradley, Northern Iowa and Missouri State, respectively.
How they got here: West got past Cedar Rapids Washington, 67-58, then outlasted Linn-Mar, 65-58, in overtime. East advanced with a 68-39 win over Waukee and a 50-44 triumph over Southeast Polk.
