The growth of girls’ wrestling continues and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has added another state championship event to coincide with the rapidly expanding sport. The IGHSAU will begin a State Duals championship for the 2026-27 season.
Luther College will expand its athletics department. The Norse will begin competition in women’s wrestling in the 2025-26 season. A nationwide search for the program’s first coach will start this winter.
Instrumental in the state’s rapid growth of girls’ high school wrestling, Erin Gerlich was announced Thursday as the next executive director of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
