Gayle and Rich Szyperski of Cedar Rapids are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Melissa Rose, to Daniel Edward Ryerson, son of Karen and the late Bill Ryerson of Chicago, IL.

Melissa received a bachelor's degree in

biomedical engineering from the University of Iowa and a master's degree in microbiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is currently working on her Ph.D. in microbiology at the University of

Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Danny received a bachelor's degree in biology at the University of Iowa and a master's

degree in molecular and integrative physiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is currently working on a Ph.D. in molecular and integrative physiology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Melissa is the granddaughter of Ernest and

Lillian Loomis of Cedar Rapids and Richard and Jan Szyperski of Atlanta, GA.

Danny is the grandson of Norma and the late Kevin Flynn of Chicago and William Sr. and the late Dolores Ryerson of Bolingbrook, IL.

Melissa and Danny will be wed on August 23, 2014.
