Iowa Workforce Development has discovered a fraudulent website posing as the state agency’s unemployment claims portal, the agency said Tuesday.
The website “mirror’s IWD’s claims portal” and tries to obtain personal information from those filing for unemployment, according to the news release.
IWD urged those unemployed to only use www.iowaworkforcedevelopment.gov and not any other variation of that link.
Possible signs of suspicious activity include information appearing to be from IWD asking someone to go to a different website or inquiries appearing to be from IWD about a jobless claim when the person hasn’t filed for unemployment.
Any who receives a suspicious message or website link should contact IWD “immediately,” the agency said, at UIfraud@iwd.iowa.gov or 866-239-0843.
