Picking Mr. North Cedar

STANWOOD - Earlier this month, the North Cedar After Prom committee hosted its fifth annual Mr. North Cedar Contest, raising $1,100 for the committee.

The five contestants were Levi Ruchotzke, Riley Holst, Jacob Silva, Landon Weber and Jayden Johnson. Nick Frommelt and Trever Greene also signed up but didn't raise enough money to advance to the final round.

Contestants were judged in three categories - formal, talent and beach wear. For formal, Ruchotzke and Holst dressed in their father's suits, showcasing some old styles. Silva and Weber wore fashionable vests and Johnson modeled a retro blue suit.

In the talent competition, Ruchotzke began with beautiful run on the piano and then moved into a lovely version of 'Mary Had A Little Lamb.” Holst painted a piece called 'A Polar Bear in a Snowstorm,” showing off his artistic abilities. Silva recited a poem of his own creation in the form of a rap, silencing the whole gym. Weber challenged Logan Minar in a trampoline dunking competition, while wearing a superman costume. Weber lost to Minar, claiming it was because his trampoline broke on the second attempt to dunk. Johnson was right on target with his quarterback skills when he threw a football across the gym through a Hula-Hoop held by Chandler Moore.

And finally, for swimwear, Ruchotzke found some swim trunks to show off his butterfly tattoo, Holst dressed like a lifeguard, ready to save a life, Silva modeled a hula skirt and a shirt with an imitation of a six pack, Weber rocked his floaty and Johnson showed off his fashion skills with stylish swim trunks.

The runner up for the Mr. North Cedar was Johnson and the 2015 Mr. North Cedar was Holst.

Each contestant had a jar on the After Prom's table in the concession area during basketball games. Contestants and friends would walk through the crowd during breaks in the boys' and girls' games trying to get donations for their favorite contestant.

The judges were Becky Bergmann, Tom Thimmes and Darla Dotywould.
