STANWOOD - Lindsay Crock, daughter of Lee and Lori Crock of rural Mechanicsville, was honored at this year's Greater Cedar Rapids National Council on Youth Leadership (NCYL).
Crock received one of 25 $100 scholarships from NCYL. She was one of approximately 200 participants in our local Cedar Rapids chapter.
As a nominee, a young person must have been elected to a leadership position and have at least a 'B” average. Students are nominated not only on grades, but also on leadership in school activities, religious organizations, or activities in their community.
At North Cedar High School, Crock has been a strong leader in sports, band, National Honor Society and in academics during her high school career. She has been the class president all four years and has been a captain for the football cheerleading squad, the competition cheerleading squad and for the dance team.
In band, Crock plays the flute and is the section leader.
When asked how she does it all, Crock just chuckled.
'I stay really busy and with hard work comes the rewards,” she said.
A rewarding experience was being selected for the UCA All American Cheerleading squad and going to London, England.
In the community, Crock is very active in 4H, the County Council and in her church's religious education program for third and fourth grade. Last year she was named Miss Iowa Angus Princess. Her favorite part was meeting members of the Angus Association and promoting the breed.
'I had to give a speech on the benefits of natural vs. AI breeding, which made me real nervous,” she said. 'There were people from three different breeds listening to me.
'There were other events where I handed out ribbons and awards.”
By participating in numerous activities and organizations, Crock understands the importance of giving back. After graduating Crock, who has been accepted at St. Ambrose University, will finish her nursing degree.
She has made a significant difference in the North Cedar community and will continue with positive accomplishments and excellence.
