CLARENCE - Last week was National FFA week when chapters across the United States plan many activities at their schools.
The North Cedar FFA chapter at had a different theme for every day of the week.
Monday was flannel and boots day, Tuesday was camouflage day, Wednesday was blue and gold and drive your tractor to school day, and Thursday was official FFA dress or an FFA T-shirt. Each day an FFA emblem was hidden throughout the school, as well. Any student who located the emblem received a gift card.
In order to be apart of FFA, students have to be in an agriculture class during the year. The North Cedar FFA chapter officially signed its charter last year. The local FFA chapter is made up of students who elect leaders for their group and are advised by the agriculture teacher. There are 7,757 chapters in the United States, 226 in Iowa.
The North Cedar's chapter is focusing on increasing participation with every activity this year. They want more students to participate in the FFA activities to make it more fun for everyone. There are 48 members in North Cedar FFA because every student enrolled in an agriculture course is a member due to participation in affiliation dues.
The 2015-2016 North Cedar officers are junior Lakaya Lyon, president; senior Taylor Miller, vice president; senior Meranda Thimmes, secretary; senior Rylie Meier, treasurer; and junior Caitlyn Clarkson, sentinel.
