LISBON - Lisbon INC is a better way for students to learn.
This project-based learning class allows students to learn what they want to learn. Students get to branch out, research and learn about their interests and use their talents.
'I like how it is an open environment,” said student Renae Hasselbusch, who works in the Innovate, Network, Create program. 'You kind of get to do your own thing and learn about the things you want. A project Grace Morningstar and I are starting is a running club for young kids.”
Morningstar and Hasselbusch are passionate about running, so they found a way to blend running and education.
In Lisbon INC, students get to be free and get away from the standard textbooks and traditional testing.
Students get to explore their interests, whether its photography or sewing. In Lisbon INC, students get to develop passions for things they did not even know about.
Lisbon INC teaches students the real-world skills that help them outside of the classroom. Students learn communication skills, including talking in person, talking on the phone and emailing. These skills can help students talk to teachers, business professionals and others they may not familiar with.
Although students do get grades in Lisbon INC, they're not doing their projects for an 'A.” They are doing the projects to make their clients happy. In Lisbon INC, a project or job is done for a business or someone in the community.
