MARION - The Linn-Mar school board will hold a public hearing and vote on a five-year extension of the district's instructional support levy at the board's Feb. 23 meeting.
The hearing will be held at 7 p.m. in the district's Learning Resource Center boardroom, 2999 N. 10th St. A vote will be held later in the meeting.
The property tax levy is used to provide additional funding for the district's general fund. The amount of the levy is determined annually under a formula that also includes additional state aid.
Linn-Mar's current authority to use the levy expires June 30, 2016.
Funds generated by the instructional support levy may be used for any general fund purpose.
The district is currently using the additional funds for curriculum and instructional supplies; staff development; technology staff, software and supplies; musical instruments and equipment repair; co-curricular and extracurricular support; and additional instructional staff.
