Iowa student-athletes charged so far in ongoing criminal investigation of sports betting

UPDATED FEB. 1, 2024

This data table and collection of criminal complaints shows the most recent charges connected with the ongoing investigation of Iowa student-athletes betting on sports.

So far, 25 current and former athletes at Iowa colleges and universities are known to have been accused of a crime. All individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Additions will be made to this table and court documents collection as new information is learned.

Hunter Dekkers

Accused of Tampering with records, an aggravated misdemeanor. From affidavit of criminal complaint:

“According to subpoenaed records, this DraftKings account … which was controlled by HUNTER DEKKERS, completed approximately 366 mobile/online sports wagers. These sports wagers collectively totaled over $2,799. The last wager placed by DEKKERS, prior to … was on July 2, 2022. In total, the account controlled by DEKKERS made approximately 297 wagers while DEKKERS was under the age of 21. Approximately 26 wagers were placed on Iowa State University sporting events. One wager was placed on the 2021 Iowa State football game against Oklahoma State.”

Paniro Johnson

Accused of Tampering with records, an aggravated misdemeanor. From affidavit of criminal complaint:

“According to subpoenaed records, this DraftKings account … which was controlled by PANIRO JOHNSON, completed approximately 1,283 mobile/online sports wagers. These sports wagers collectively totaled over $45,640 with approximately 25 wagers placed on Iowa State University sporting events.”

Dodge Sauser

Accused of Tampering with records, an aggravated misdemeanor. From affidavit of criminal complaint:

“According to subpoenaed records, this DraftKings account … which was controlled by DODGE SAUSER, completed approximately 113 mobile/online sports wagers. All wagers were prior to SAUSER's 21st birthday, on … These sports wagers collectively totaled over $3,075. with approximately 12 wagers which were placed on Iowa State University football games, including 2022 games against Ohio, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech.”

“According to subpoenaed records, this FanDuel account … which was controlled by EYIOMA UWAZURlKE, completed approximately 801 mobile/online sports wagers. These sports wagers collectively totaled over $21,361. Four wagers were placed on Iowa State University football games, including the following 2 games … Additionally, the account placed approximately 32 wagers on NFL Denver Bronco events and individual NFL Bronco players. At the time the wagers were placed, UWAZURlKE had been drafted to the Broncos. These wagers included the following NFL games …”

Aaron Blom

Accused of Tampering with records, an aggravated misdemeanor. From affidavit of criminal complaint:

“According to subpoenaed records, this DraftKings account … which was controlled by AARON BLOM, completed approximately 170 mobile/online sports wagers before he turned the legal age to gamble. These sports wagers collectively totaled over $4,400 with approximately 8 wagers placed on University of lowa sporting events, including one "under total points" sports wager on the 2021 Iowa vs. Iowa State football game.”

“According to subpoenaed records, this FanDuel account …, which was controlled by AHRON ULIS, completed approximately 1,850 mobile/online sports wagers. Over 740 sports wagers were placed before ULIS turned 21, the legal age to gamble. These sports wagers collectively totaled over $34,800 with at least one wager placed on a University of Iowa sporting event and over 430 wagers placed on NCAA sanctioned basketball and football games. The account participated in fantasy contests involving monetary stakes while AHRON ULIS was under the legal age for fantasy gambling in Iowa.“

These sports wagers collectively totaled over $2,500. Over 380 of these sports wagers, totaling over $1,800, were placed before JACK JOHNSON became the legal age to wager in Iowa.
