AMES — Iowa State head football coach Matt Campbell will earn $5 million in total compensation annually through 2032 — an amount $1 million higher than he received in the 2024 season.
The Gazette obtained a copy of Campbell’s contract extension Friday afternoon.
Several incentives also appear in the contract that could push Campbell’s annual compensation considerably higher. For instance, Campbell would earn an additional $250,000 annually if ISU wins seven games, and that number mushrooms as it climbs to as many as 12 wins, which would yield him $1.5 million annually.
Campbell, who led the Cyclones to their first-ever 11-win season in 2024, also became the program’s all-time winningest coach last season.
If Campbell were to leave ISU for another college program, his buyout would be $2 million.
