For the first time, the football teams of Iowa and Iowa State will both be in Associated Press’ Top 25 when they play each other for the 68th time.
Not only that, but both are in the top 10 as they approach Saturday’s meeting in Ames. Never had they been in the top 10 at the same time. Iowa State’s No. 7 preseason ranking was its all-time high in the poll.
Iowa State is No. 9, Iowa No. 10.
The only question after both opened the season with victories last Saturday was where they would be slotted in Associated Press’ Top 25. The answer:
The Cyclones slipped two spots after their 16-10 win over Northern Iowa in Ames. The Hawkeyes climbed eight places following their 34-6 home win over then-No. 17 Indiana.
It is Iowa’s highest ranking since it was No. 9 in the final 2015 poll.
