NEW YORK — Iowa State had two players selected in the WNBA Draft on Monday night.
Stephanie Soares went pick No. 4 to the Washington Mystics before being traded to the Dallas Wings.
After an impressive career at the NAIA level, the 6-foot-6 post played 13 games for the Cyclones before tearing her ACL this past season. She averaged 14.4 points, 9.9 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game for Iowa State.
Iowa City High grad Ashley Joens was selected with pick No. 19 by the Wings. Joens is a three-time winner of the Cheryl Miller Award, given to the top small forward in the country, and scored 3,060 points in her Cyclone career.
The pair are the 15th and 16th Iowa State players selected in the WNBA Draft. Soares is now the highest pick in ISU history. The previous high pick was Alison Lacey, who was selected 10th in 2010.
South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston went No. 1 overall to the Indiana Fever. Maryland’s Diamond Miller went No. 2 to the Minnesota Lynx and Villanova’s Maddy Siegrist went to the Wings at No. 3.
