AMES — Former Saint Mary’s forward Joshua Jefferson announced Tuesday on social media that he’ll be joining the Iowa State men’s basketball program.
Jefferson, who stands 6 feet, 8 inches, joins two other forwards — 6-11 Dishon Jackson of Charlotte and 6-10 Brandton Chatfield of Seattle to help shore up a Cyclone frontcourt depleted by the departures of seniors Robert Jones, Tre King and Hason Ward.
Jefferson averaged 10.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals while starting 26 games as a sophomore for the Gaels (26-8), who won the West Coast Conference and were a No. 5 seed in the 2024 NCAA tournament.
ISU head coach T.J. Otzelberger said Tuesday that barring any surprises, his 2024-25 roster is essentially set, as redshirt freshman Kayden Fish will return to receive the program’s 13th and last scholarship for next season.
“What we’re always looking for is guys who are hardworking, high character and self-aware,” Otzelberger said on a Zoom call. “We think these guys fit.”
The Cyclones are also slated to return four players who scored in double figures last season: Keshon Gilbert, Curtis Jones, Tamin Lipsey and Milan Momcilovic.
Lipsey, Otzelberger said, is recovering well from shoulder surgery he underwent after ISU’s Sweet 16 loss to Illinois in the NCAA Tournament.
“His body probably needs a little time off,” Otzelberger said.
