How they got here: Midwest Region No. 11-seed Iowa State defeated sixth-seed LSU, 59-54, then beat No. 3-seed Wisconsin, 54-49. No. 10-seed Miami edged No. 7-seed USC, 68-66, then beat No. 2-seed Auburn, 79-61.
Series: Iowa State leads, 1-0. The Cyclones beat Miami 73-56 in the Advocare Invitational at Disney World in 2016.

1. This is the first Sweet 16 appearance for both teams since 2016.
2. It’s Iowa State’s sixth Sweet 16 appearance, under six different head coaches. The Cyclones got to the second week of the NCAA tourney in 1986 (Johnny Orr), 1997 (Tim Floyd), 2000 (Larry Eustachy), 2014 (Fred Hoiberg), 2016 (Steve Prohm) and 2022 (T.J. Otzelberger). The 2000 team is the only one that reached the Elite Eight.
3. This is Miami’s fourth Sweet 16. It lost Sweet 16 games in 2000, 2013 and 2016.
4. The Cyclones’ last Sweet 16 game was an 84-71 decision to Virginia, also an ACC team. That game was played on a March 25.
5. Jim Larranaga is in his 11th season as Miami’s coach. Before that he coached two years at American International, 11 at Bowling Green, and 14 at George Mason, where he coached the 2005-06 team to the Final Four as a No. 11-seed in its region.
6. Iowa State had 24 steals over its two NCAA wins this year. Freshman guard Tyrese Hunter had eight of them.
7. ISU starting center George Conditt IV and Miami starting guard Charlie Moore are from Chicago. Moore is one of four sixth-year seniors on the Hurricanes. Moore previously played at California, Kansas and DePaul.
8. Both teams have been out-rebounded this season.
9. The Cyclones are third in the nation in 3-point defense at 28.7 percent, are 13th in turnovers forced per game (16.7), and 30th in turnover margin.
10. Miami’s leading scorer is guard Kameron McGusty (17.5 points per game). He played his first two seasons at Oklahoma and averaged 12.5 points in four games against Iowa State, three of them losses.
11. Iowa State is a win from tying Towson for the men’s Division I record of a 21-victory improvement. Towson went 4-14 last season, 25-9 this season.
12. These are two of the four double-digit seeds in the Sweet 16. The others are No. 11 Michigan and No. 15 St. Peter’s.
13. Iowa State is 15-0 against teams outside the Big 12.
