AMES — Ashley Joens beat the odds merely by making the Dallas Wings’ opening-day roster as a second-round WNBA Draft pick to open this season.
Now — three weeks after being waived by the Wings — the sharp-shooting forward and former Iowa State and Iowa City High standout is back in the professional ranks, as the Las Vegas Aces announced she’d been added to the team’s roster Wednesday afternoon. The defending WNBA champions signed the 6-1 Joens to an emergency hardship contract.
Joens, ISU’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder, averaged 21.6 points and 9.7 rebounds her senior season with the Cyclones.
The Aces lead the WNBA this season with a 19-2 record.
