Water main break along First Street SW diverting traffic
Cedar Rapids police confirm that a water main break is causing road closures Thursday morning.
The break occurred near the intersection of First Street and Diagonal Drive SW. As of 6:50 a.m. the water had been turned off and had receded enough to allow limited access to the area.
Although it had been previously closed, the entire Eighth Avenue Bridge has now reopened to traffic.
The majority of the intersection of Diagonal Drive SW and First Street SW remains closed to traffic. This closure is impacting westbound traffic between 1st and 2nd Street SW. Any drivers who would normally travel in this area are asked to find an alternate route.
The closure is expected to last several hours, officials said.
