Des Moines police have shared a video showing a mountain lion behind a Des Moines home overnight, apparently from a home surveillance camera.
The video shows the animal investigating behind the home, illuminated by a light at the back door. A man is seen opening the door shortly after the mountain lion left the immediate area.
The Des Moines Police Department is urging residents in the areas to exercise caution, especially those with children or pets.
Additional tips can be seen on their Facebook post, including:
- DO NOT RUN! Running may stimulate the mountain lion to chase you.
- Do not crouch or bend over. An upright person does not resemble a mountain lions typical prey.
- Keep small children and pets close. Pick them up if possible.
- If attacked, SCREAM LOUDLY AND FIGHT BACK.
