Original story---

A male bicycle rider died Friday after falling while trying to go down a steep hill, according to a Linn County Sheriff's Office media release.

Just before 9 p.m., the Mount Vernon Fire Department, Area Ambulance, Linn County Deputies and Linn County Sheriff's Rescue responded to the 400 block of South Ely Street in Bertram.

The bicyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after falling. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and it is believed that no other vehicles or people were involved, according to the media release.

The man was transported to Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The man's name is being withheld at this time.
