Two killed after train hits SUV in southwest Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS - Two people were killed Sunday when a sport utility vehicle collided with a train in southwest Cedar Rapids.
Authorities said emergency personnel were dispatched around 4:20 p.m. to railroad tracks in the 3000 block of C Street SW, after several 911 callers reported seeing a train hit an SUV.
When first responders arrived, they found both occupants of the SUV dead, police said. The vehicle had been hit by a Union Pacific train.
The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of family members.
The accident remains under investigation.
