Two charged with attempting to break into Cedar Rapids apartment

Two people were arrested this weekend on charges that they took guns to an apartment in Cedar Rapids where they believed there were narcotics and attempted to break in.
Clayton O’Brien, 17, of Lisbon, and Kayden Jakel, 19, of Cedar Rapids, are charged with first-degree robbery, first degree attempted burglary and going armed with intent.
O’Brien also is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance. He was charged on all counts in adult court.
According to criminal complaints, O’Brien and Jakel attempted to kick in the door of an apartment in southwest Cedar Rapids on Saturday in order to steal narcotics that they believed were inside. O’Brien was armed with a .357-caliber revolver and Jakel was armed with a .22-caliber long rifle. O’Brien also was found to be in possession of marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms, the complaint states.
Both Jakel and O’Brien had their first appearances in court on Saturday and each is being held on a $35,000 bond.
