Two 13-year-old boys were taken into custody for driving a stolen car early Friday on Interstate 380, near Kitty Lee Road SW in Iowa City, according to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
Johnson County sheriff’s deputies received a report of an erratic driver in the area, and when they tried to pull the vehicle over the driver did not stop. After a short pursuit, the driver and the passenger were both identified as 13-year-olds.
The car the teens were driving was recently stolen from the Cedar Rapids area. Both boys were charged with first-degree theft. The one driving the car faces additional charges of eluding and speeding.
Both teens were taken to the Linn County Juvenile Detention Center. Authorities did not identify the teens’ hometowns.
