A tornado touched down Thursday evening near Oxford Junction, damaging a building, as gusty winds moved across parts of Iowa.
Six firefighters spotted the tornado touch down just after 6 p.m. to the west of the small Jones County community. The storm damaged pipes and shingles of a structure, the National Weather Service reported.
Elsewhere, funnel clouds were spotted Thursday afternoon by Runnells and Colfax in Central Iowa, but there were no damage reports.
Storms were moving late Thursday into Illinois, where the weather service had issued hazardous weather statements but not advisories for several counties.
The weather service forecast patchy fog and then partly cloudy skies Friday for Cedar Rapids, with highs in the mid-80s.
