A tornado with 110 mph wind gusts ripped up trees Tuesday afternoon in Alburnett as storms passed quickly through Eastern Iowa, the National Weather Service reported Wednesday after teams assessed the damage.
The tornado was rated as EF1 on a scale of EF0 to EF5. But if its peak winds had been just 1 mph greater, it would have qualified as an EF2.
The tornado was brief, lasting only about a minute near 1:30 p.m.
About 20 minutes later, the weather service said, an EF0 tornado briefly touched down in Mechanicsville in Cedar County. Its peak winds were reported at 80 mph.
The tornado sent two grain bins aloft and damaged corn, the weather service reported.
