Thanksgiving Day fire causes damage to Iowa City home

The Iowa City Fire Department responded to reports of a kitchen fire early in the morning on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22.
According to a news release, at around 5:50 a.m. on Thursday the firefighters responded to 1577 Stafford Place after receiving the reports.
The first unit arrived on scene seven minutes after notification and reported light smoke from a single-story four-plex, according to the release.
The occupant had evacuated the residence before their arrival, no injuries have been reported.
According to the release, the fire was contained to the kitchen and extinguished within five minutes after arrival. The residence sustained fire damage to the kitchen and light smoke damage throughout the building. A loss estimate is not yet available and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Department.
