CEDAR RAPIDS — Police are looking for a 44-year-old man they believe shot and killed a man Saturday in southwest Cedar Rapids.
Warrants for first-degree murder and going armed with intent have been issued for the arrest of Nestor Lagunes Dominguez.
Police said he is a suspect in the fatal shooting of Jose Florentino Ramirez Landin, 40, in the 4000 block of 21st Avenue SW.
A 911 caller alerted police to gunshots at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at that location, where officers found Landin had been shot more than once.
Witnesses said they had been cooking out with Landin when a man — later identified as Lagunes Dominguez — arrived in a vehicle with another person.
After talking to the two, Landin walked away from them between two garages, and Lagunes Dominguez followed him, witnesses told police. They then heard several gunshots.
Lagunes Dominguez returned, saying, “It’s done, let’s go,” as he placed a handgun into his waistband, police said.
Police had responded earlier to a complaint from Lagunes Dominguez, who told officers someone he knew had punctured a tire on his vehicle. Police did not say whether they believed that complaint was connected to the shooting.
Lagunes Dominguez’s whereabouts is unknown, police said.
He is approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs about 180 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.
Police said Dominguez should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to call Cedar Rapids police at (319) 286-5491.
