Small fire extinguished at UI’s Trowbridge Hall Wednesday

A small fire at Trowbridge Hall in Iowa City was 'quickly extinguished” by Iowa City Fire Department crews Wednesday.
According to a department media release, at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday, Iowa City firefighters were dispatched to Trowbridge Hall on the University of Iowa Campus due to a fire alarm activation. The first unit, on scene within three minutes of the call, discovered an active fire in one of the building's laboratories. Additional Iowa City fire units were called to the scene to assist with fire control and building evacuation, according to the release. In the meantime, the fire was 'quickly extinguished with an extinguisher.”
17 fire personnel responded to the alarm. According to the release, outside agency support and assistance was provided by the University of Iowa Police, the University of Iowa Fire Safety, University of Iowa Facilities, and Johnson County Ambulance.
There were no injuries reported from the incident, according to the release. Light smoke damage was limited to the floor the fire had been on, and fire damage was contained to the origin of the fire. The fire originated in laboratory equipment and spread to nearby compustibles. A damage cost from the fire is not yet available, according to the release.
