Sheriff’s office: West Liberty man kidnapped woman from Iowa City bar, sexually assaulted her, and left her in a cornfield

A West Liberty man is accused of kidnapping a woman from an Iowa City bar and sexually abusing her after offering her a ride home.

According to a criminal complaint filed by the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, Andrew Craig Wilson, 33, was at an Iowa City bar during the early morning hours of September 29, 2018 when he met the woman. The sheriff's office did not specify which bar.

After the bar closed, officials said Wilson allegedly offered to give the woman a ride to her residence in Iowa City. Wilson then drove to a secluded road south of Iowa City and sexually assaulted her, according to the complaint.

Wilson neither had consent or the authority to take the female anywhere other than her residence, the complaint states.

During the sexual assault, officials said Wilson struck the woman in the face, choked, and threatened her. Wilson told her if she continued to fight he would continue to choke her until she stopped, the complaint states.

After the assault, officials said the woman became conscious in a cornfield, without pants or shoes. She then ran to the nearest house for help, where a resident of the home called 911.

Wilson faces a charge of first-degree kidnapping, a Class A felony, and second-degree sexual abuse, a Class B felony. Class A felonies are punishable by a maximum sentence of life in prison, while Class B felonies can carry a sentence of up to 25 years.

Wilson made his initial appearance in Johnson County District Court Monday where a judge set bond at $350,00 cash or surety.
