The Cedar Rapids Police have issued a notice regarding some calls they have received from citizens regarding a Medicare scam.
According to the department, the caller will say they are a part of the federal government and need to verify personal information because of the new Medicare cards that are being sent out.
Medicare, like the Internal Revenue Service, does not make phone calls to individuals, the department states in a Facebook page.
The department urges that if someone asks you for your information, for money, or threatens to cancel your health benefits if you don't share your personal information, hang up and call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
