Round two of severe storms expected for much of Eastern Iowa

There is a second round of potentially severe storms expected to descend on much of the Eastern part of Iowa and Western Illinois this late afternoon into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are expected, with conditions that are favorable for severe storms. The greatest threat will be large hail, possibly reaching the size of golf balls, and wind gusts of 70 mph or more.

The service also warns of discrete supercells capable of producing tornadoes.

In addition to the severe weather, rainfall totals are expected to reach as high as 2 inches in some areas, and could produce flash flooding.

The National Weather Service also expects to see portions of the Mississippi River flood later this week as rainfall totals climb.
