Occupants at an Iowa City duplex fire had safely evacuated the structure by the time the fire department had arrived three minutes after they were notified of the fire, according to a news release.
At 5:32 p.m. Tuesday, the Iowa City Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at 1234 Sandusky Drive, Iowa City. Fire and smoke were showing from a front window of the single-story duplex, the release stated.
The fire was contained in 1234 Sandusky Drive and brought under control within 10 minutes. It sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage while the attached unit at 1232 Sandusky Drive sustained smoke damage only, according to the release.
The Red Cross assisted occupants of both units and the fire remains under investigation.
