Replay live coverage: Isaiah Sweet murder trial

Opening statements in Isaiah Sweet's first-degree murder trial are expected to begin this afternoon in Dubuque County District Court. Watch reporter Hayley Bruce's live coverage from the courtroom here.

Sweet is accused of two counts of first-degree murder after police say he fatally shot his grandparents, Janet and Richard Sweet, on May 11. The Manchester couple was found May 13, with gunshot wounds to the head, by family coming to the home for Mother's Day.

Brandon Ahlers, a friend of Sweets, was sentenced to 18 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the lesser charges of unauthorized possession of an offensive weapon and third-degree burglary, two counts of accessory after the fact and two counts of attempted third-degree burglary through an Alford plea for aiding Sweet with the murder.

Jury selection concluded Thursday morning, and opening statements are expected to begin around 1:15 p.m.
