Predicted crest of Cedar River drops to 16.7 feet on Sunday
Heavy rain has stayed away from Cedar Rapids for the past few days, and the Cedar River has adjusted accordingly.
According to the National Weather Service's river gauge forecast, the crest for the Cedar River has adjusted downward in Cedar Rapids from 17 feet to 16.7 feet Sunday afternoon. Major flood stage is at 16 feet.
The forecast adjustment comes after city officials have assured the public they have protection in place to defend up to an 18-foot crest, and are prepared to mobilize additional protection if necessary.
The weather service's forecast shows partly cloudy skies, but no risk for rainfall, for Saturday.
