The Cedar Rapids Police Department has increased patrols on the Cedar Lake Trail after a woman reported being assaulted Saturday.
According to a news release from police, the police receive a report of an assault at 12:44 p.m. Saturday.
Police said an 'approximately 25-year-old female” reported being assaulted by a man in his forties on the Cedar Lake Trail near the Sag Wago Deliand Brew in the 800 block of Shaver Road NE.
The woman told police that a white male, roughly six feet, four inches tall, pushed her from behind and knocked her to the ground. A bicyclist confronted the man, who then fled on foot, she said.
The woman described the man as having brown hair and wearing a white sweatshirt and jeans.
Police officers arriving on scene soon after her call found she had injuries to her neck and abdomen, but they didn't require her to be hospitalized.
The witness on the bicycle left the scene before police could arrive.
Police are encouraging the bicyclist who witnessed the assault, or anyone else with information about this incident, to contact the department at (319) 286-5491. They ask that the public should report any other suspicious activity as well.
Police say they are continuing to investigate the incident.
