Police: SUV crashes into restaurant when driver hit wrong pedal

Sep. 27, 2018 4:47 pm
Police officers, firefighters and emergency personnel responded Thursday morning to the Metro Buffet restaurant on 33rd Avenue SW after an SUV crashed into the building.
The police department said officers were dispatched just after 10 a.m. Their investigation, according to a news release, concluded that the SUV's driver - a 53-year-old woman who police have not identified - accidentally hit the vehicle's accelerator instead of the brake pedal, propelling the vehicle into the building. Police said the vehicle was a 2002 Mercedes sport utility vehicle.
According to the news release, it was initially believed the accident may have sparked a gas leak inside the building, but Public Safety spokesperson Greg Buelow said firefighters were unable to find any evidence of a leak.
Police said no patrons were inside the restaurant at the time and no one was injured.
