An Iowa City man is accused of breaking into an apartment and assaulting a woman there.
According to Iowa City police, at 2:32 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a report of a man yelling that he was going to kill someone and attempting to break into an apartment at 2401 Highway 1 W. Responding officers discovered a broken window and saw multiple foot prints on the apartment door.
Police entered the residence and found 23-year-old Lennell Caldwell, Jr. in an upstairs bedroom. Police said Caldwell had gotten into an argument with the female resident, became angry and forced his way into the apartment. He then allegedly assaulted the woman, causing an injury to her left cheek. Police said Caldwell does not live in the apartment and had not right to force his way in.
Caldwell was arrested and faces one count of second-degree burglary, a class C felony.
