Police say Cedar Rapids man shot horses in Johnson County
Jan. 29, 2013 9:52 am
Police have arrested a Cedar Rapids man they say shot and killed a horse and injured two others over the weekend in a Johnson County pasture.
Ryan Grafft, 31, is being held at the Johnson County Jail on $17,500 bond. Investigators say Grafft fired a rifle at the animals from inside his truck as he passed by their pasture on Falcon Road Sunday afternoon.
According to a criminal complain, Grafft told investigators that he didn't know why he shot at the horses, but that he felt it was a "stupid" thing to do. He faces multiple charges, including shooting a rifle over a highway and injury to animals. He was booked into the Johnson County jail early Tuesday morning, according to a jail database.
On Monday, Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek confirmed that Grafft fired around 20 shots into the pasture. The owner of the horses said he doesn't know Grafft and can't figure out why someone would want to harm his animals.
