Police say Cedar Rapids couple cut pills to snort near children

Sep. 21, 2012 11:42 am
A Cedar Rapids couple was arrested outside a Casey's General Store in North Liberty on Thursday after police caught them cutting prescription pills to snort while inside a car with small children.
Chasity Sophia Longstreet, 31, faces charges of prohibited acts with prescription drugs and child endangerment, and Blair David Campbell, 45, faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance after police saw him using a razor blade to cut a white powder and pull it in to lines on a CD case, according to a criminal complaint.
When an officer told Campbell to stop, he reportedly dumped the substance between the seat and the center console. He later explained to officers that Longstreet is his girlfriend, and she gave him the pill to cut so they could both snort it, according to a criminal complaint.
Longstreet, who had a valid prescription for oxycodone acetaminophen, said her boyfriend was cutting the pill for her only. Campbell told police they were both going to snort it, according to the complaint.
While Campbell was cutting the pill, according to police, two small children – ages 2 and 4 – were in the back seat and were leaning up into the front of the seat.
Both Longstreet and Campbell were released from the Johnson County Jail on Friday morning.
